On June 27, the state of Nevada passed Assembly Bill Number 511, making driverless or so-called “autonomous” cars legal, and mandating the establishment of “a driver’s license endorsement for the operation of an autonomous vehicle.” The law won't take effect until March 1, 2012, but, although it won't actually sanction unmanned cars on the road, it sets the wheels in motion with DMV guidelines. The bill defines driverless cars as relying on “artificial intelligence, sensors, and global positioning system” to coordinate the ability for the car to drive itself without a human operator...
