Robotic Cars to Navigate Nevada's Roads by March 2012


What happens in Vegas, soon won’t stay in Vegas—that is, if you are talking about robotic cars, which the state intends to license for street and highway driving.

On June 27, the state of Nevada passed Assembly Bill Number 511, making driverless or so-called “autonomous” cars legal, and mandating the establishment of “a driver’s license endorsement for the operation of an autonomous vehicle.” The law won't take effect until March 1, 2012, but, although it won't actually sanction unmanned cars on the road, it sets the wheels in motion with DMV guidelines.
