30 Ways We've Helped Wounded Warriors
#26: The Wounded Warrior Handbook
When wounded Marines return home from combat, they enter a completely different
world. For some of them it's a world of doctors, treatments, surgeries, recovery
and life after recovery. For others it's the never-ending battle against PTSD.
No matter the situation, there are new obstacles to overcome and new rules to follow
as a veteran. Veterans and their families need to have an understanding of the care
and benefits that are available to them as well as guidance for coping with the
injury or illness.
In addition to the support our PHFS volunteers offer to wounded Marines and families
in person, Marine Parents also ensures that the families have a constant source
of support at their fingertips. We distribute a book called The Wounded Warrior
Handbookfree of cost to families of wounded warriors. The book serves as a resource
guide for returning veterans and contains answers to commonly asked questions and
resources for support and guidance through each step of the recovery process. It
is truly a comprehensive compilation of everything a wounded warrior and family
needs to know.
We hope to be able to distribute more of these handbooks across the country, and
a portion of the $25,000 grant will be set aside for this purpose if we are among
