A few highlights from tonight?s matches?

Under-19 Girls
Competition is tight in the Under-19 Girls as both games on opening day were decided by 1-0 scores. Region IV champion Real Colorado National 91/92 proved their mettle in the regional final by scoring twice in stoppage time to move on to Nationals. They outlasted the Region I champ, PDA Tsunami (NJ), today, scoring the game winner with just five minutes left to play on a strike from Cassandra Geerdts.

The Under-19 Dallas Texans are trying to add to their 2008 national title as U-16?s, but Region II champion Woodbury Inferno (MN) took the three points from the opener with a 1-0 win. Bozena Podkopacz netted three minutes into the second half to lead Inferno to the victory.

Under-18 Boys
Defending national champion Alpharetta Ambush 93 Red (GA) began its quest for a second straight title with a 2-1 victory over Region IV champion Palo Alto 93 Blue (CA-N). Cory Plasker starting the scoring in the 12th minute off a short corner. On the designed set piece, Plasker was found with yards of space at the top of the 18 and cracked a first-time shot into the side netting. Karl Chester doubled the Alpharetta lead in the 29th minute as he ran onto a through ball in the box, cut the keeper and finished on an empty net. Just before the half, Palo Alto?s Riley Hanley converted a free kick to earn a goal back on the last kick of the half. That score held despite multiple scoring chances in the second half and the game ended win a 2-1 Alpharetta win.

The next field over, Region I and Region II faced off at YMS Thunder (E-PA) met KCFC Rangers 92/93 (KS). KCFC scored first as Thomas Schermoly found the net in the 22nd minute. In the second half, Kyle MacDonald leveled the score on a 63rd-minute strike for YMS. His second goal of the day came in stoppage time and proved the game winner, lifting his team to the 2-1 victory on day one.
