With the rise of IP communications, we have seen all sorts of advances in the way we work and communicate with our customers. Thanks to Internet Protocol and rapid advances in networking technology with a hat tip to Moore's Law, corporations have been able to reconfigure the operations based on what makes the most sense for their organization. For example, no longer are contact centers forced to be physical locations - instead, using today's technology we can design these "virtual" centers so they can be exactly that, virtual.

Continuing on from Part I, we further delve into answering the question of 'What is Virtual Contact Center?' By definition, a contact center is a central point of any organization from which all customer contact is managed. When making contact with a business the customer is routed to agents or Subject Matter Experts (SME's) based on the business process and flow. Traditionally, customers have interacted with companies via voice and in recent years, we have witnessed a gradual shift to communication channels such as email, live chat and text messaging. Most recently, customers interact via social media channels.

Like any business, contact centers rely on maximum productivity to drive success. One of the biggest signs that a call or contact center hasn't maximized its potential is idle time. If agents are on the clock but aren't answering the phone, you are losing money.
