Started by a DJ known to sing along to club remixes of the Lion King score, this gourmet shake shop operates out of the same place you lost your virginity: a 1974 Chevy Argosy van, parked behind Cheer Up Charlie's. He's blending up mad creaminess like the "Panshake", with an actual Austin Diner pancake, syrup, and vanilla; the vanilla/jalapeno "Texas Popper"; and the oatmeal/'nilla/cinnamon "Good Morning" -- grab a banh mi from neighboring Me So Hungry, and you'll be screaming "Good Morning, Vietnam!". Or whispering it to yourself and tittering.

The dude who brought infusions to Rio Rita and opened the Grackle has headed west of the highway to launch a secluded bar on Jackalope's back patio, yanging the yin of their punk/pint mentality with rare whiskeys like Thomas Handy Rye, Death's Door White, and Parkers Heritage 27yr, alongside infusions like a garlic-habanero tequila, as well as heavy-hitting bottles like Arrogant Bastard, which is actually a pretty cool bastard once you get to know it.

The soul kitchen enters our Favorite 5 Sports Bars based on this sterling criteria: it's a short hop from the Stadium; the bar's flatscreen loves football; their fresh-orange-mellowed frozens won People's Choice at San Antonio's Margarita Fest; they've got a mean-ass chicken-fried steak; oh, and it's managed by Skip Walker, who carried the rock for the Aggies and Ottowa Rough Riders, who were sued for their motto "We Like the Rough Stuff" by the writer of a dirty classified ad.
