Coursekit was originally thought of in June 2010 when the young students realized the failures of the popular academic site, Blackboard (News - Alert). According to CEO Joseph Cohen in an article by TechCrunch, “It is really a Blackboard replacement with a heavy emphasis on social networking.” In the same article it states that the system will be a place where teachers can post their syllabus, reading materials, grades, links, calendars, and more.
