Here's what's been on our radar this week...
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC)  said today that Pacific Gas and Electric Company ( PG&E) customers can say no to  smart meters, but it will cost them. And given the reported reaction of smart meter opponents, it doesn’t appear as though the opt-out plan will end the fierce battle over the new technology.
 

Customers electing to retain or return to an analog meter will be assessed an initial fee of $75 and a monthly charge of $10

The new Tesla S—an  electric, full-size, rear-wheel-drive, five-seat sedan—is a departure from the Roadster.

Outside of the  Toyota Prius or the  Chevy Volt, Tesla is the best known name in the ever-growing world of alternative fuel vehicles. And now, as the release of the company’s new flagship car, the  Model S, creeps ever closer, the  Tesla hype machine is  beginning to shift into high gear.

Solar Home Continues To Inspire Post Decathlon

WaterShed, the  winning solar house of the  2011 Solar Decathlon, has finally graduated college and is entering the real world. We’ve followed the University of Maryland’s WaterShed home through its college years, and are proud to see it secure a future with electric service provider Pepco.


 WaterShed will act as a “living classroom and laboratory” for visitors to learn about its clean energy and  water conservation features.
Energy use is further broken down into what each building uses for heating, cooling, water heating and lighting

New York City Energy Map Aims For Green 2.0

The study offers an unprecedented level of information concerning energy use in New York City across the five boroughs. The statistical model it employs makes use of ZIP code-level energy consumption data  to estimate the average annual energy use for every tax lot—at practically the level of the building—throughout the city.
