Kirsten Pitt Shoots the D
The city like you've never seen it
Looking through a lens can change the way you see cities, people, or even random capital letters an optometrist has strung together into FERCAT. Get a fresh perspective from Kirsten Pitt, a local photog who studied in London and's shot images everywhere from Thailand to Plazac (the city in France, not a knockoff depression drug). She's also got a fine selection of dream-scapes from right here in the City Of Hating It When The Roads Get Icy And We Don't Know What to Do:

Dream: To capture this scene under a Deep Ellum bridge, Pitt had to use innovative foreground lighting techniques, but only after stalking Anthony Kiedis until he started using needle drugs again.

Gypsy Tea Room: Taken in 2000, the juxtaposition of black & white landscape with color murals venerates the beloved spot as a beacon of culture in a land made of bricks, and provides incontrovertible proof that there was once a band named "Gomez".

Republic Tower: The former tallest building west of the Mississippi used to have mad banking going on inside. Now people live in it. Kind of makes you wistful for the pre-S&L days, but turning the thing into residences is a far healthier move than getting hooked on fruitless nostalgia and Plazac.
