Intel is looking for more sales opportunities with China's governmental agencies and business sector, according to statements from Intel's developer forum. Company officials at the forum, now underway in Beijing, predict these deals could lead to innovations in business, consumer electronics and other industries. One of the most pertinent examples of the Chinese government's strong hand is its strict regulation over the Internet, disallowing citizens to visit unwanted and apparently corruptible sites like Facebook, Twitter and WordPress. So it came as little surprise when various news sites reported yesterday that the Internet in China was acting in less than a free-flowing fashion. Garter Research, a firm specializing in the consumer electronics industry, released new projects for tablet sales through 2016. The report projects Apple will remain the largest manufacturer of tablet mobile computing devices for at least the next five years, with Android gaining substantial ground. Long before I became a mother, I was a self-proclaimed gadget junky. I was an early adopter of the iPod when it made its foray all those years ago. I always had to have the latest cell phone on the market. The day I got a smartphone was a day of celebration. I ran out and got an iPad the minute they became available. To say technology is a large part of my life is an understatement. Smartphones have been very helpful for mobile service providers, boosting average revenue per user by driving mobile broadband subscriptions. But the subsidies generally used to spur sales are becoming a major drag on earnings, and change is coming. Service providers will have to risk lower sales growth, and less mobile broadband revenue growth to limit handset subsidies.
