T cell responses: Jagged gives an edge to TH1 cells
p806 | doi:10.1038/nri3356
Crosstalk between the complement and Notch systems regulates human TH1 cell responses.
PDF

Regulatory T cells: TReg cells separate the weak from the strong
p806 | doi:10.1038/nri3360
TReg cells enhance the avidity of CD8+ T cell responses to foreign antigens.

B cells: IL-21 promotes B10 cell population expansion
p808 | doi:10.1038/nri3346
Expression of MHC class II molecules, CD40 and IL-21R by B10 cells is required for their regulatory function.
PDF

B cell responses: Born to be (a bit) wild
p808 | doi:10.1038/nri3347
Wild mice carry a promoter polymorphism in an inhibitory receptor gene that predisposes towards autoimmune disease.
PDF

T cells: TCR affinity goes asymmetric
p809 | doi:10.1038/nri3340
Antigen-TCR affinity dictates effector T cell fate by determining the polarity of T cell divisions.

NLRC5: a key regulator of MHC class I-dependent immune responses
Koichi S. Kobayashi & Peter J. van den Elsen
p813 | doi:10.1038/nri3339
The identification of NLRC5 as a transcriptional transactivator of MHC class I genes has shed light on the regulation of MHC class I expression. This Progress article summarizes the recent advances in the field and highlights some of the questions that still remain to be addressed.

New concepts in the generation and functions of IgA
Oliver Pabst
p821 | doi:10.1038/nri3322
Secretory IgA is an important first-line defence mechanism that protects mucosal barrier tissues from environmental microorganisms and toxins. Here, the author discusses the pathways that lead to the generation of secretory IgA and proposes a model to describe the variable quality of IgA responses against pathogens and commensals.

The role of the IAP E3 ubiquitin ligases in regulating pattern-recognition receptor signalling
Peter Vandenabeele & Mathieu J. M. Bertrand
p833 | doi:10.1038/nri3325
Inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) contribute to innate immune responses not only through cell death control but also as essential components of pattern-recognition receptor (PRR) signalling. Here, the ubiquitin ligase activity of IAPs downstream of PRR activation is discussed, along with its therapeutic implications.

Recognition of CD1d-restricted antigens by natural killer T cells
Jamie Rossjohn, Daniel G. Pellicci, Onisha Patel, Laurent Gapin & Dale I. Godfrey
p845 | doi:10.1038/nri3328
Here, the authors discuss how the T cell receptors expressed by natural killer T cells are able to recognize and respond to an array of self and foreign lipid antigens that are presented on CD1d molecules. They explain how a better understanding of these processes could be exploited for therapeutic purposes.
