He responded that he was doing his job of putting brick on mortar on brick again and again. It was clear that the conversation could not go much further, so the bishop went to another worker. This man showed a greater precision, and when the bishop asked what he was doing, the second man paused, took a step back and then answered the question by saying he was doing his job of building this wall. Finally, the bishop came upon a third brick layer who seemed not only happy but enthusiastic.
