Now there are some really cheap providers of VoIP – I won’t name them – that cost even less. But then you do give up just about all of your value-added features. In other words, in VoIP as in any other technology, you get what you pay for. And the ultra-cheap VoIP services, some even claiming to be “free,” lack a little thing called customer service. In my opinion, any business that uses such a service is fooling itself and asking for disaster.
Another compelling reason for any business large enough to use a traditional key system, or a larger PBX, to move to VoIP is that the company will no longer have to worry about the administration and maintenance of its own hardware. VoIP lets you do it in the cloud – in other words, outsource those tasks to your VoIP company. For a small business it means that the boss (or some other relatively highly-paid employee) doesn’t have to also become the expert in the key system, as is often the case.
