| Peter Coyne | The Pentagon used to go to Silicon Valley to seek out the genius they needed. But no more, writes Somini Sengupta in The New York Times. More commonly, would-be entrepreneurs are applying to work for intelligence agencies like the NSA to gain cybersecurity experience. This new type of tech entrepreneur values inner workings of the security state. Not to mention the firsthand experience with holes in the security. "They have unique insights because they've been on the front line," Matthew Howard, a former intelligence analyst in the Navy and now a managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners told the Times.
Yeah. Unique insights and connections.
The Times piece continues:
As former intelligence employees, they "have enormous opportunities to cash in on their Washington experience, sometimes in ways that fund further innovation and other times in ways that might be very troubling to many people," said Marc Rotenberg, executive director at the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington.
We've come to accept the unholy alliance between business and big government. In fact, from an investment standpoint, we prefer it. You're able to know who will profit from federal dollars ahead of time. That's been our case all week -- investing along with the military-industrial complex pays off.
In the realm of cybersecurity spending, that means you should be focusing on what the Pentagon calls "Plan X." (We know. And your guess is as good as ours. Maybe plans A through W were flops… ask the Pentagon, they named it.)
"'Plan X' is simply a massive defense spending program -- $16.1 billion in contracts," wrote our own Byron King this week. Not only is Byron our military maven, but he's been cataloging the facts and figures scattered across declassified documents.
"$16.1 billion will shower down on a handful of small cybersecurity firms," he continues. "In recently declassified documents, I discovered information that's allowed me to create a shortlist of companies that are positioned to win these contracts."
Byron's posted the list online for you. If you haven't seen the details on the firms and how to invest in them, you should look now. We're pulling the information down this Sunday -- that's when the Pentagon awards the first contract money.
Needless to say, this opportunity is urgent. But because of the sensitive nature of this information, we have to ask you to sign a confidentiality agreement before you can see our research.
Don't worry, you don't have to open your wallet. And you're not required give us any personal information. We're just asking you to agree you won't broadcast this hypersensitive information to the whole world.
Simply click here to initial the confidentiality agreement and then you'll be redirected to the details on our shortlist of companies, free of charge. They're the handful of firms that will start receiving the Pentagon's $16.1 billion starting Sept.1.
A few of Bryon's essays this week are below if you're interested.
| | | | | | | | Declassified: Pentagon Will Flood Market With $16.1 Billion in New Spending… On Sept. 1, the Pentagon is set to unleash Plan X. And it could send this one small group of stocks through the roof. When this last happened during World War II, it was possible for investors to grab massive once-in-a-lifetime gains of 12,428%… 20,381%… AND EVEN 55,000% from unprecedented military spending. So click here now for this declassified brief on how you could have the opportunity to seize military-guided gains! | | | | | | | | This Week in the Daily Reckoning... | | A Shortlist of Companies That "Plan X" Will Send Skyrocketing By Byron King Here's all of Byron's research on the Pentagon's $16.1 cybersecurity program, "Plan X." We're pulling this offline tomorrow. That's when the Pentagon awards their first contracts to the lucky firms. Byron shares all of the details with you. Simply click the link and enter your initials saying you won't spread the information and you'll be taken right to Byron's research... Deadly Cyberattacks Highlight the Need for a Cybersecurity Upgrade By Byron King The Sayano-Shushenskaya disaster in Serbia demonstrates the immense scope of destruction that can come from cyberattacks. It's worth recalling because it -- or something like it -- may soon come to a location near you. In fact, this week, the departing secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, issued an unbelievable warning. The Pentagon: Angry Birds Hold the Key to Our Security By Addison Wiggin The Pentagon spends $500 billion per year, holds stern press conferences and lives by rigid protocols. But attacks like the recent cyberstrike in China show they could be bested by a young rabble-rouser wearing a V for Vendetta mask. You have to admit… it's kind of funny. USCYBERCOM and the Fifth Domain of War By Josh Grasmick Today, we could be seeing a historic parallel between the establishment of the Air Force and the 2009 establishment of USCYBERCOM. Josh believes that it poses the greatest investment opportunity since the attack on Pearl Harbor and America's military mobilization.
Defiling the Memory of President Eisenhower By Peter Coyne Amidst the budget carnage, there are sweet spots. There's funding that continues no matter what. I'm tempted to say, "Don't tell Congress," lest they slice it out of the next defense appropriation. But before that happens, here are investment opportunities in the federal budget that you should watch...
