Do Chemicals Affect Childrens Brains
Do Chemicals Affect Children's Brains?
A recent study by my two environmental heros has declared that the number of chemicals known to be toxic to developing brains has doubled since 2007. The biggest effects of exposure occur between conception and early childhood and include increased chances of IQ loss, reduced attention span, ADHD, emotional problems, less impulse control, and dyslexia.

Rules to Design By: Green Chemistry Principles
While researching an article on Green Chemistry, I stumbled across an entry on the subject in the ever amazing Wikipedia. It contained something that I didn't know existed: a set of principles to guide chemists in greening their labs and the things those labs create.

Why We are Raising Our Family in the City
Why We're Raising Our Family in the City
As friends around me begin to have children, they start to migrate. Plans involving kids seem to necessitate moving to the suburbs, to the "good schools," to lower crime rates and larger backyards. My husband and I decided long ago that we'll be resisting this push to relocate outside the city limits. In fact, in the years since we've had our son, we've tried to move further into the heart of our city.

Raw Food Diet: Lifesaver or Passing Fad?
Raw Food Diet: Lifesaver or Passing Fad?
Sting sings its praises. Demi Moore swears by it. It just might be Cher's secret "fountain of youth" and even Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and tennis great Venus Williams have turned to a raw diet at times for reasons that ranged from wanting to look and feel better to losing weight. You don't have to be famous, though, to discover what the Raw Diet phenomenon is all about.

Whats Really Lurking in Your Clothing
What's Really Lurking in Your Family's Clothing?
A new report has me questioning everything in my closet. Greenpeace purchased 27 items at the flagship stores of eight top-shelf brands. Tests showed that 12 items contained hormone-disrupting nonylphenol ethoxylates, five had been treated with perfluorinated chemicals, another five were made with phthalates, and three contained antimony…

Spring Rambles with my Son
Spring Rambles with my Son
Spring is tantalizingly close. We've spent the last few weeks reluctantly trapped indoors, out of the icy cold and slush. As this winter begins to thaw, we're gradually, eagerly, making our way outside to soak up the bits of nature we've missed these last months. I'm anxious to plan some outdoor fun.

From our Blog:
BEE LOVING
Teacher Holli turned our post on pollinators into a lesson for her preschoolers: I have been teaching my preschool kids not to step on the bees. They all immediately squashed one when they saw it outside even though it would be on the other side of the playground. I've been teaching them that we only kill them if we MUST to protect ourselves. They now will fuss at each other, "Don't smush the bees! We NEED them!"

LIFE CHANGING PRODUCTS
Fan Lisa got in touch with thanks for our support: I wanted to send another thank you to your organization for supporting our non-profit's fundraiser… I recently spoke to the recipient of your products and she absolutely fell in love! In fact, Seventh Generation is now the only product line she uses to clean her home; she got rid of everything else she previously used. This is exciting for us because we really wanted to introduce healthy lifestyle products into our 55,000 person community and are really glad Seventh Generation was right there to support that effort. I've enjoyed your products for years and am glad that more people know how life changing using your products can be. Thanks again!
