July 19 Pack Day Registration is Now Open!

June 5, 2014
Greetings!

We're so glad you joined us for this issue of The Care Package Project News!

We're just over a month away from our July pack day, and for anyone who is interested in joining us in Columbia, MO on July 19, registration is now open!

If you have a friend or family member deployed to a combat zone, you can request we send them a care package.  It's free, easy to request, and open to all branches of the military.

If you're unable to join us in person for a pack day, but still want to contribute in some way, for just $22, you can sponsor a care package.  Sponsoring a care package is a quick, easy way to show your support for our troops.

Thank you for joining us for this issue and for your continued support of our brave men and women in uniform.

Marine Corps Marathon Bibs Are Still Available!
Sign Up Now to Secure Your Spot!

Marines support their own. As a Marine supporter, this is a mantra you are likely quite familiar with.  Often, Marine families adopt the same mindset and do what they can to support their Marine and his or her new "brothers" and "sisters." One way to provide that support is by joining Team Marine Parents, a group of individuals, generally parents, family and friends of Marines, who participate in athletic events nationwide to support our troops. The mission is to raise funds and awareness of the organization's outreach programs.

Since 2013, Team Marine Parents™ has been a U.S. Marine Corps charity partner. Through charity partners such as Team Marine Parents, thousands of individuals from around the country have the opportunity to compete in the Marine Corps Marathon, the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon, and numerous other Marine Corps-sponsored running events while raising funds in support of a personal cause.

Charity partners are given a predetermined number of running bibs to distribute to their team members as they see fit, allowing the members who receive those bibs to avoid having to risk not getting a spot during the public-registration rush.

At this time, Team Marine Parents still has 28 bibs available for the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon. Each bib costs $110 and requires you to join Team Marine Parents and pledge to raise $500 for the Marine Parents outreach program of your choice (one of the smallest minimum fundraising requirements among all Marine Corps Marathon charity partners).

Sponsoring Care Packages
$22 Sends a Personalized Care Package Overseas

When you sponsor a Care Package, you've made the decision to fund the sending of various comfort items to an American serving in the military in a combat zone far from home. These packages include such items as handwritten cards, hard candies, clothing, easily prepared meals, books, and personal care items. The packages send a personal message to troops overseas: that their efforts are appreciated, that they are not forgotten.

Sponsor a Care Package today, and we will include your name inside a package to be mailed out on our next pack day.

Sign up for Operation Prayers and Letters™

Our wounded, ill, and injured troops need your support as they navigate the physical and emotional recovery processes. These processes can be, and often are, long and painful. Support from the public for these men and women who have sacrificed so much on our behalf is paramount to recovery.

One way to provide support is through participating in Operation Prayers and Letters, an outreach program of MarineParents.com that allows individuals in communities throughout the United States to send much needed prayers, hand-written cards, and hand-written letters to service members who have been wounded, injured, or become ill while serving in combat zones, as well as to service members that have recently served in combat zones and then became wounded, ill, or injured.

Since the beginning of this all-volunteer operation, over 90,000 cards and letters have been delivered to program members, providing them with additional motivation as they recover and letting them know that their sacrifices are appreciated. You can help make a difference in the lives of these young men and women. Send a "Thank You" today.
