Roots of Smooth: Toots Thielemans Wednesday, Aug 6, 6PM Born in Brussels, Belgium on April, 29 1922. He played accordion as a child and started playing harmonica as a hobby. Toots originated a new sound by whistling and playing the guitar in unison, which he did for commercials; the best known is "Old Spice," and in 1962 he composed "Bluesette" receiving several awards.

Eric Alexander Eric Alexander started piano lessons at the age of six. He took up the clarinet at nine and switched to alto sax three years later. The tenor sax became his obsession at Indiana University Bloomington (1986-87). After transferring to William Paterson College in New Jersey he studied with Harold Mabern, Joe Lovano, Rufus Reid, and others.
