| Rainbow Colored Sheep Beneath a Rainbow Posted: 03 Oct 2014 04:00 AM PDT In his youth, photographer Gray Malin once heard of a Scottish shepherd who dyed the wool of his sheep in order to make them more visible at night and thus less easily stolen. This story rolled around in his head for years until it came into fruition as the "Dream Series." Malin dyed a flock of sheep bright, vibrant colors. Then he photographed them as they moved around. The results are magical in appearance, as though these animals have become mysterious cryptids passing into our world only temporarily. -via Huffington Post | ||||||||

| Turtle Recall - One Ugly Little Head Trip Posted: 03 Oct 2014 12:00 AM PDT There's a mean little brain named Krang who came to Earth looking for freebies but found a way to take over the world. His brain was a mighty instrument of terror, but his body wasn't much to look at, so he built himself a tough guy suit so he could blend in with the Earthlings. He remained undetected for a while, setting his evil his plans into action, but Krang wasn't counting on four green Earthlings with shells on their backs foiling his mind games... Warn the world about the dangers of Krangification with this Turtle Recall t-shirt by Adho1982, and take your geeky wardrobe on a trip back to when cartoon turtles were cool! | Posted: 03 Oct 2014 12:00 AM PDT Sometimes, one of the coolest parts of a video game is when you finally reach the boss fight. Since the earliest years in gaming, video game bosses have truly evolved. Where once they were a pixel, slightly larger than you, now bosses can sometimes be larger than the screen. Just a massive beast who wants nothing more than to crush you like a bug under its thumb. Luckily, over the years, the good guys have gotten considerably more talented, too, and often show these lumbering creatures who the REAL boss is. YouTube User Qubimaxima assembled this very cool video list of massive end bosses from recent video games. The best part is, he feels no need to exposition much over the bosses or why they are here. He just lets their massive size speak for itself. (YouTube Link) I will say, there is something incredibly gratifying about taking down some massive beast who wants nothing more to destroy you. But you don't have to be a game geek like me to appreciate the design of some of these bosses, or just marvel at their size. | ||||||||

| A Morbid Look at 25 Writers Who Killed Themselves Posted: 02 Oct 2014 10:00 PM PDT Though it is a morbid subject most would rather just avoid, it would be almost foolhardy to ignore the number of famous writers and authors who have taken their own lives. What is the correlatiom between suicide and writing? Though I have some theories myself, they are simply that. Theories. But to deny the impact suicide has had on literature would be to deny a huge part of its history. Over at The L Magazine there is a list of 25 famous authors who killed themselves, and I bet there are a few entries on the list you did not know. I am not pointing out this article to be unqiely morbid or to sadden anyone. It just seems to me that once we can recognize this epidemic facing writers, maybe we can me more aware on how we can potentially change that. Enlightenment is the first step toards change. I am not sure if that is true, as I just made it up. Regardless, this article will make you stop and maybe rethink just how much you THINK you want to be a writer. There are, in fact, several hazards hat go along with this field. One of those being, apprently, suicide. | ||||||||
| Anonymous Hero Immediately, Non-Violently Ends Train Attack Posted: 02 Oct 2014 09:00 PM PDT This mysterious video shows a thug scream at and harrass a woman on a German train. When he savagely kicks her, a fellow passenger stands up. In one quick movement that did no harm to the attacker, he immediately defused the situation. -via 22 Words | ||||||||

He's got the right stuff for that job! Doddiezoomer is great at merging fine craftsmanship and a geeky style. We've previously seen his Darth Vader wood stove. More recently, he made this elegant wood stove from a steel gas bottle and boxes. | Long-Haired Dachshund Luxuriates Under Bathroom Faucet Posted: 02 Oct 2014 02:00 PM PDT This long-haired dachshund is apparently the unicorn of dogs: one that loves to bathe. This dog adorably mimics a human in the way she throws her head back and looks up to a shower head as the relaxing warm water rolls down. I've seen dogs who like to swim, but very few who like to bathe. If my dogs were that easy to get under a faucet, I wouldn't pay to have them groomed. -Via Tastefully Offensive
| Bridge in London Would Fan across the Water Posted: 02 Oct 2014 01:00 PM PDT
This beautiful and novel bridge design by Knight Architects and engineers at AKT III is designed to unfold across the water like a fan. It's their concept for a bridge over a canal in London. The bridge would consist of five steel beams with hydraulic jacks and counterweights that form a walkway. LED lights illuminate the structure, providing an architectural spectacle during both night and day. You can view more images of it at Design Boom.
| Cucco's Revenge - Chicken Little No More Posted: 02 Oct 2014 12:00 PM PDT Cucco's Revenge by Gordon Brebner Designs They would no longer be called chicken, because the cuccos were now out for blood. They'd had enough of Link's bullying ways, and they refused to be picked up and tossed aside like insignificant shrubbery. They would peck, flap, claw and cluck their way to the top of the food chain, starting with that little pointy eared punk who had inspired their cucco revolution... | 9 Clever Ways To Make Stuff Out Of Other Stuff Posted: 02 Oct 2014 12:00 PM PDT Okay, I admit that wasn't the best title I've ever come up with, but short of calling these things "object hacks" I just didn't know how to perfectly describe making stuff out of stuff. However, turning old useless stuff into shiny new stuff is totally fun, and a great way to show off your crafty side while being eco-friendly! 1. Chip bag hair bow- You don't have to be a fashion expert to know that hair bows are always in style, and if you're out of chips and out of style then you're in luck! With a little crafty know-how and a mirror you've got one tasty hair accessory! 2. Upcycled jeans tablet sleeve- Losing an old pair of jeans is like losing a good friend, but you can turn that frown upside down by turning your old jeans into a snazzy denim tablet sleeve. It looks even cooler if your jeans are worn or covered in patches. 3. Playing card top hat- Heading out to poker night but you don't have a thing to wear? Grab a deck of cards, some scissors and a stapler and you've got all you need to make a sweet playing card top hat that'll make your friends flush with envy! Only the bravest souls attempt this master trainer level build- a brimmed Pokemon card hat simply oozing with swagger! Got game? This kid certainly does! 4. Adorable Lego Storage container- LEGO stuff is expensive! But why buy retail when you've got the makings of a you-tail upcycling in your kitchen? With a clean plastic tub (the kind that usually hold pretzels or cheese puffs), some paint, some stencils and a little effort you've got a really cool LEGO container that's really affordable! 5. Plastic shopping bag dress- Don't you hate it when you're out shopping and you suddenly lose every stitch of clothing you're wearing? Make a skirt by stringing bags along a belt made of plastic bags, tie on over plastic bag bodice and you're ready for the bakery department ball! The plastic bag dress is kind of a free-for-all- sometimes it looks good, other times it looks really corny: 6. Hair raising balloons- Are you tired of having your thick, hot hair hanging on your neck? Employ a squadron of balloons to give that heavy hair a lift! Admit it- you wish you'd thought of this one when you were at Burning Man last year... 7. T-shirt dress- You may have seen variations on this theme being done all wrong by trashy people all across the country, but the end result of this t-shirt dress tutorial actually looks pretty good! Take note People of Walmart- this is the only appropriate way to wear a t-shirt as a dress! 8. Plastic jug painter's buddy- The plastic jug painter's buddy doesn't look all that great, but it's a great idea! They're a real life savor when your home improvement projects involve painting, and you can recycle them when you're done! Or, if you prefer your paintings on canvas a Pringle's can is the perfect size to hold all of your brushes, and with a few quick modifications nobody will be able to tell it used to house a snack stack! 9. Plastic bottle piggies- It seems like there are always plastic bottles lying around our homes, and each week we throw them in the recycling bin without a second thought. But what if you could upcycle them by turning them into cute little piggy planters, would you still toss them out? These piggy planters add a touch of whimsy to your garden, they replace the plastic pots you normally buy from a garden store, and when they've outlived their usefulness you can toss them in the recycling bin. Why buy new stuff when there's plenty of old stuff all around us that can be turned into new stuff? Be eco-friendly and crafty at the same time- reuse whenever possible! | ||||||||
| Invasion of the Robot Cheerleaders Posted: 02 Oct 2014 11:00 AM PDT Leave it to Japan to give us a crew of adorable little robot cheerleaders! Or actually, they’d be more correctly called a drill team, since they don’t jump, but instead perform a dance of precision formations while their glowing pompons change colors. And they have a backstory: they are “elementary students full of energy and curiosity,” and are open to accepting new members. | ||||||||
| 12 Hilarious Reactions to iPhone Bendgate Posted: 02 Oct 2014 09:30 AM PDT Image Credit: Samsung Seems a great many folks are not too impressed with the fact that you can just bend the new iPhone and it stays bent. In other words, once your new Iphone gets bent somehow in your pocket, you will then have a bent phone. Not just in theory, but in your actual pocket. Again, to reiterate. It does not bend back to the original shape. This is a massive flaw that many internet sites and other competing companies have jumped on almost immediately, resulting in what will now be called "bendgate." The website Oddee thought it might be fun to gather some of the best iPhone 6 "bendgate" photos and assembled them all into one place for you. The abve photo Samsung quickly put out after the bend news leaked is just one of many spot on parodies of the new iPhone's unofficial bend feature. I know those of you who rushed out and bought the phone that day must be upset. The rest of us who are still using our old phones think all this is hilarious. Sorry. Sometimes being poor pays off. The rich people run the beta tests on products for their first years, then when all the bugs are worked out, it is years later and the rest of us can finally afford it. Thanks for that! | ||||||||
| Computer Users Sign Over First-Born Child in Exchange for Free Wi-Fi Posted: 02 Oct 2014 09:00 AM PDT Wait--did you read the terms and conditions before you clicked to agree to them? If you had, you might have spotted this passage:
Oops! Well, the upside is that you now have free Wi-Fi access from F-Secure, a computer security company. Also, you won't have to spend as much money on Christmas this year.
To promote its services, F-Secure assembled a simple Wi-Fi hotspot, which is pictured above, from about $200 in parts. Company representatives took it to a busy shopping mall and convention center in London. In half an hour, they recorded 32 MB of data, such as passwords and private messages, from passersby who logged into their hotspot. They deleted the information, of course. But that didn't diminish their point: your electronic information isn't necessarily secure if you use free Wi-Fi.

The skate decks are stacked, cut, shaven and polished to create both 3-D sculptures as well as wall pieces.

| Archaeologists Discover Dungeon That May Have Held "Dracula" Posted: 02 Oct 2014 06:00 AM PDT
Prince Vlad, on whom Bram Stoker based the character of Dracula, is thought by the team to have been held in one of the newly discovered dungeons by the Ottoman Turks in the year 1442. The Ottoman empire took power in 1392 after conquering the city of Tokate. Çetin said, "The castle is completely surrounded by secret tunnels. It is very mysterious. It is hard to estimate in which room Dracula was kept, but he was around here." Vlad the Impaler, as he came to be known posthumously, had the reputation while he was alive as being extremely cruel and sadistic. His favorite method of torture and execution was impalement, although he killed those he deemed enemies in almost every way possible. Methods of torture and execution — other than the impalement for which he was famous — included mutilation, amputation, burning, blinding, strangulation, scalping, skinning, exposure to wild animals and the elements and boiling alive. Reportedly in 1462, one of his enemies from Constantinople who was preparing to attack actually turned around and made a hasty retreat at the sight of 20,000 of Vlad's impaled corpses outside the capital city. Restoration of Tokat Castle began in 2009 and is ongoing. Given the size of the area, it is likely that more discoveries will be made as the excavation continues.

| 9 TV and Movie Cliches We’ve Never Seen in Real Life Posted: 02 Oct 2014 05:00 AM PDT
Okay, we all, every one of us, have been raised on television and the movies. And while a truly original movie or TV show is very rare, the reverse is true: cliches abound. There are dozens and dozens of movie and television cliches we have all seen and all now come to expect.
2) The surprised two-timing lover scene.
4) The “I know it's you" to the psychotic. How often have we seen this one: six or seven guys against one "good guy" in a fight, and they just line up and get beaten, one by one. 7) The no-can-talk gag in the mouth. Now this one may not be seen so much in real life, simply because most of us are not well acquainted with murderers, killers, homicidal maniacs or perpetrators of other heinous crimes.
