The fifth revision of the HTML standard, finalized by the World Wide Web Consortium in October 2014, aimed to bring the web closer together than ever before by taking into account the latest technological advances and design trends. As the first revision since the HTML4 specifications were published in 1997, HTML5 standardized some of the best practices developers have been following for a while and added many new functions to enable intuitive cross-platform, feature-rich applications.
Panopto provides businesses with a video platform that integrates recording, streaming, and video management in a single location. Its most recent announcement regards an update to the Panopto platform that brings its video technology through HTTP live streaming (HLS) to Web browsers.
Web development recently passed a major milestone when the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) published the Recommendation of HTML5. This effectively makes HTML5 a done deal, bringing native support for video and audio to the language. With no revolutionary changes to HTML expected for several years, Web development seems likely to focus on the Open Web Platform (OWP).
