Not Your Average Chip By Jocelynn Smith, Sr. Managing Editor Are you ready for the government to know where you are and what you're doing at all times? I hope so, because technology has taken another step in that direction. Epicenter — a new office block in Sweden — has begun offering tenants the option of being chipped. With the tiny RFID (radio-frequency identification) implant, people can open doors or operate the photocopier with just a wave of their hand. Soon they'll be able to use the chip to make purchases at the cafĂ© without the hassle of carrying a wallet or even that more antiquated idea of having cash on hand. Technology has advanced at near lightning speed in the past few decades — even the past few years. We've become addicted to the little super computer we carry with us at all times. With a couple taps and a swipe of our finger, we can check a bank balance, chat with friends, reserve movie tickets and catch up on the latest news. That new convenience comes at a high price: Our privacy. It has become easier for government and consumer data collectors to spy on our every action. Phone conversations are being scooped up and stored en masse. The GPS chip in the phone allows your location to be tracked at any time. You look at something online and the item then proceeds to follow you to other websites in the form of ads, pressing you to buy now! The Swedish biohacking group behind this technology claims that by implementing this technology now, we can better understand and regulate it before government and corporations get their greedy hands on it. But we know better. This isn't the kind of technology that corporate lobbyists and policymakers won't have their say in its development. Take steps now to guard your privacy against attack from both the government and consumer data collectors. Technology will continue to advance, presenting you with tempting ways to hand away your secrets in the name of convenience. For now, you at least have the option of putting the phone down and turning it off. The tracking stops. The data collection ends. But a chip under the skin? That stays with you, as do the eyes of the government. Regards, Jocelynn Smith, Sr. Managing Editor, Sovereign Investor Daily P.S. Why? Because if the Fed has gone this long saying they'd increase interest rates with absolutely nothing to show for it, holding out for better yield is just a waste of time. The Media Is Dead Wrong When It Comes to Oil Once a thought gets embedded in the media's collective conscious, it takes on a life of its own, like a virus invading a host. Right now, they'd have you believe oil prices are so low because of America's "unrelenting" supply, and weaker-than-normal demand in Asia. This self-reinforcing cycle of misinformation is grossly disguising the truth. Click here to see what's really happening. Chaos in America: 40 States on High-Alert! This decision cost the city about $200 million in economic activity, despite the storm's relatively pitiful impact. But that's not the real story. The real story deals with the NY politicians who attributed this event to climate change, suggesting heavy storms will become much more common. Click here to read why this is a hasty assumption, and more likely a very dishonest one. |
