A supervolcano is a volcano that is generally much larger than others, an example of a supervolcano is the volcano beneath Yellowstone National Park. It has not erupted for about seventy thousand years ago, but is not considered dormant due to the continuing volcanic activity. This type of volcano often has the potential to effect extremely large scales of area, even possibly whole continents could be effected by an eruption from such a volcano. Mudslides are caused by the ice on top of the volcano melting due to the high temperatures, making the water mix with mud and debris. The earthquakes are sometimes a precursor to a volcanic eruption, a warning sign of sorts. The most dangerous part of a volcanic eruption would have to be the gasses emitted when eruption occurs. The gasses are superheated and move at hurricane-fast speeds, able to destroy anything they touch. Vaporized water is the most common gas, but sulfuric gasses are even more dangerous as they remain in the atmosphere, causing greenouse-effects. The eruption's sulfuric gasses were responsible for a volcanic winter that kept temperatures in single digits for years, obviously killing much of the life on Earth. The gas is also one of the causes of acid rain. The biggest known volcanic activity are from volcanoes not found on Earth. The largest known volcano is called Mount Olympus, found on the planet, Mars. Mars also has other various shield volcanoes that are bigger than any found on our own planet, though all are believed to be extinct. Io, a moon orbiting Jupiter is said to be the most active thing in our solar system, with so many eruptions that the surface is constantly being reshaped. The lava on Io has been measured to be as high as 1500 degrees celcius, hotter than anywhere else in our solar system.
