President Trump’s headstrong refusal to release his tax returns has gone on long enough. He’s turned a deaf ear to public pressure and he’s thumbed his nose at 40 years of tradition.
If President Trump isn’t going to respect the integrity of the office he holds, we need to take action.
Americans deserve transparency from their president. In order to get it, Democrats in the Senate want to require all major party presidential nominees and sitting presidents to release the last three years of their tax returns.
Now we need as many Americans as possible to stand up and demand action on this. Be one of them by demanding that Congress require tax return disclosure.
Until we see President Trump’s tax returns, there is a lot we won’t know about his potential conflicts of interest or the ways in which he could abuse his power.
We won’t know whether President Trump has financial ties to Russia. We won’t know whether he’s supporting policies because they enrich his own business. We won’t even know whether he pays federal income taxes like the rest of us.
When President Trump is cutting deals with foreign governments, lifting Wall Street regulations, and slashing taxes for those at the top tax bracket (the one he belongs in) -- Americans deserve to know his motives.
Ironically, as President Richard Nixon said before he released his own tax returns, “people have got to know whether or not their president is a crook.”
President Trump has kept us in the dark about his conflicts of interest for too long. Support our efforts to force him to come clean and show Americans his tax returns.
