Welcome to The Independent's US Morning Headlines newsletter
The Prince and Princess of Wales made their first public appearance in Boston after William reprimanded his own godmother for racist comments that led to her resignation. William and Kate were welcomed by the Governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker as they arrived for their United States tour at Boston Logan International Airport on Wednesday. Their touchdown in the US, for their first foreign trip since the death of Queen Elizabeth II, came just hours after Buckingham Palace became embroiled in the racism row involving Lady Susan Hussey. The couple, who have not visited the US since 2014, will attend an awards ceremony for the Earthshot environmental prize the prince set up. They are also due to visit the city's John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum where they will meet his daughter Caroline Kennedy. |

Who could Donald Trump pick as vice president in 2024? |
Now that Donald Trump has officially kicked off his third campaign for the presidency, one of the few certainties about what he will do if he wins the Republican nomination in 2024 is that he won't be running with his former vice president Mike Pence. Not only has Mr Pence said he is giving "prayerful consideration" to declaring himself a presidential candidate in the next general election, but the Trump-Pence relationship has not been strong since the ex-veep refused to hijack the certification of electoral votes, leading to the 6 January attack on the Capitol. The twice-impeached ex-president who stood atop the 2020 GOP ticket is reportedly now looking for a far more subservient partner than the former Indiana governor, whose selection as his running mate in 2016 was driven by a desire to reassure social conservatives that Mr Trump was on board with their programme despite his history as an abortion-friendly Democratic donor. |
