Our Fathers, Sons, Lovers and Little Brothers by Makambe K Simamba
Our Fathers, Sons, Lovers and Little Brothers is one-person play based on the killing of Trayvon Martin, whose Twitter nickname was Slimm. The play's central character is a 17-year-old Black youth in a hoodie named Slimm, who suddenly finds himself in the first moments of his afterlife. He calls out for God. God does not respond. What happens next is a sacred journey through the unknown.
One performer plays Slimm and other characters including his parents, as Slimm grapples with story of how he lived and the violence that took him from his life, family, and community. Our Fathers, Sons, Lovers and Little Brothers is a protest for all Black life beyond headlines and hashtags, a prayer for all families left behind, and a promise to the community that all Black lives matter.
