Hello Indiana, I know you want to keep improving your harmonica playing. AND I know that you know what the answer is. We both know that you're not going to improve your playing if you don't practice. So, why is maintaining self-discipline to practice every day so hard? The problem is that being disciplined is really really hard. BUT Don't get discouraged yet. I'm going to make practicing every day easy for you by giving you a super power. Habit. Habit is great because you don't have to think about it. It just happens. In fact, habit is so automatic that we don't even realise it is happening. For example, every day, when I wake up, the first thing I do is make a cup of coffee. I don't open my eyes and think "What should I do first today?". No, I just jump out of bed (yes, I am a morning person) and run downstairs to make coffee. Your day is full of things like this and you don't even know it. Maybe you step into the house after finishing work and immediately turn the TV on, get changed or have a beer. Really think about what habits happen every day without you realising it. Now, why is this useful for regularly practicing harmonica? Well, if you can use a habit you already have as a trigger for your harmonica practice you can create a cascading habit. An example would be; Wake Up —> Make Coffee —> Drink Coffee —> Practice Harmonica How cool is that? You wouldn't even need to think about when you do your harmonica practice. You would just automatically do it after you finish that cup of coffee. The wonderful thing is that it can be anything. Pick your habit trigger today and then decide to add harmonica practice to it. Try to do this for a month and you will be amazed by how quickly practice becomes a habit. Happy harping! T P.S. If you want some help building this daily practice habit.
