Together, we and our allies mobilized hundreds of organizations and thousands of people to demand that the Canadian government sever its ties with PMI. And we succeeded! Earlier this year, the Canadian government announced that PMI would no longer be an investor in this vaccine. And to celebrate this shared victory, the World Health Organization (WHO) just recently recognized Corporate Accountability's tobacco campaign with one of its World No Tobacco Day 2023 Awards. We could not be prouder or more thrilled at this outcome! But we aren't resting on our laurels. In fact, we've just launched a brand new site, www.MakeBigTobaccoPay.org, to spur people, organizations, and allies alike to action as we head towards the next big U.N. Tobacco control meetings COP10 and MOP3 happening in Panama this November. If you haven't already, take a moment to sign the petition demanding that Big Tobacco be made to pay for the costs of its deadly product -- from the healthcare costs, to the environmental costs, to the tax costs we all bear. Then share the site using our share tools and spread the word to your family and friends. Beyond this honor for our tobacco campaign, here are a few more actions you've taken in the past month to challenge corporate abuse: Helping to power the Africa Week of Action Against Water Privatization The third annual Africa Week of Action Against Water Privatization happened earlier this month, organized in partnership with our allies in the Our Water, Our Right Africa Coalition. The continent-wide actions pushed back against the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and Global North governments' support of water privatization. And you were part of making it all happen. That's because many of the actions and activities that happened throughout the week were made possible through grants to allied organizations from Corporate Accountability's Movement Solidarity Fund. Demanding the passage of the PRO act The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act is a landmark labor law reform that aims to level the playing field between employers and employees. It empowers workers so they can negotiate better conditions, fair pay, and respect in the workplace. As the labor movement gains momentum, with unions across industries striking for better conditions, fair wages, and respect in the workplace, workers are making significant gains. Add your name now.
