As salaamu alaykum, Indiana—
My name is Binita, and I'm the Operations Manager here at MPower Change.
I normally don't write emails to our members, but we aren't experiencing normal times. We're watching a genocide unfold before our eyes — and not enough leaders are listening to the millions of us protesting against the horrors funded by our tax dollars.
It's so tempting to fall into despair, to feel completely hopeless. But we don't have that option.
I won't sugarcoat it: our fierce, loud, and unapologetic support for Palestinians in this moment could likely cost us funding.
Please, Indiana: make a year-end gift to MPower Change to keep our movement thriving next year.
In times like this, we must lean on each other more than ever before.
I'm reminded of the words of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from his Letter from a Birmingham Jail:
"We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."1
MPower Change community members like you — you are the lifeblood of our work and inspire us to keep fighting for liberation.
During the past year, we've accomplished so much together with your support.
Just recently:
- Our #GazaIsPalestine campaign drove nearly 500K emails and calls to members of Congress demanding they sign on to Rep. Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib's House Resolution calling for a ceasefire.
- We sent over 7,000 tweets, 700 calls, and 8,000 letters to Citibank — which has the largest presence of any foreign financial institution in Israel — as part of our #BankingOnSolidarity campaign.
- We turned out thousands to multiple #NoTechForApartheid direct actions in New York City and San Francisco, onboarded over 200 new tech workers now organizing with the campaign, and sent over 80,000 emails to the execs at Google and Amazon to demand they stop enabling Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza — the first-ever AI-powered genocide.
Together, we've made history. And we'll need your continued support to keep going.
We're currently living through one of the greatest crackdowns on free speech and civil liberties since the McCarthy era.
And there's every reason to believe it's going to get harder before it gets easier:
2024 is an election year, and all signs point to Islamophobia, xenophobia, and anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian racism increasing in volume and violence.
To be ready means we need to prepare now.
We must fight back to protect our communities and continue to build Muslim political power. Donating today means empowering our members like you, across the country, to access training and technology to lead where we live and connect more easily with more people, growing our movement.
Let's make that happen.
Times are hard. But we're going to get through this the only way we know how — as a grassroots movement working to build collective solidarity and social, spiritual, racial, and economic justice for all people.
Please give generously today to power the growing movement you helped create, Indiana.
Thank you for all you do.
In solidarity,
Binita, Linda, and the MPower Change team
