Happy Labor Day, friend. The country gets the day off. Your inbox didn’t get the memo. |
Remember the AOL guy? "You've got mail!" (Say it in the voice. You know the voice.) One message. Maybe two. Simpler times. Today it's "You've got 47 unread," and at least three of them want your bank login. |
📧 Speaking of which, how many times a day does the average worker check email on the clock? A) 15, B) 32, C) 77 or D) Once, at 4:58 p.m. Make your best guess. The answer's waiting at the end of your newsletter shift. |
🌙 My new nighttime routine: I used to have trouble getting to sleep and getting a full night’s rest. ImproveLife Sleep is here to the rescue. No melatonin. Just a delicious Tart Cherry powder designed to help calm your mind, relax your body and support restful sleep. It works for me and will work for you! 🤯 WOW! Companies will pay you $15 to $40 an hour to catch chatbots making stuff up. A nursing background bumps that to about $85. Doctors, lawyers and PhDs clear $100-plus, all from the couch. |
The Short Version: Apply directly at four legit platforms, pass a free skills test and never pay a dime to anyone offering you work. Steps below. |
📖 Read time: 2.5 minutes |
|
|
I get this question a lot on the show. “How can I make money at home with AI?” |
Chatbots flub facts every single day, and somebody gets paid to catch every one of them. Might as well be you. |
💰 To err is machine, to profit is human |
AI companies need humans to grade the robots’ homework. You read a chatbot’s answers, flag the wrong ones, fix clunky writing or compare two responses and pick the better one. No coding needed for most of it. Just a sharp eye and solid English. |
General projects run $15 to $40 an hour. Nurses and folks with medical training pull about $85 an hour reviewing health answers. Doctors, lawyers and PhDs can clear $100-plus. |
Here’s where to apply. Type these addresses yourself: |
- DataAnnotation.tech: Most folks start at $20 to $25 an hour, coders $40 and up. Pays weekly through PayPal..
- Outlier.ai: Writing and fact-checking projects, with specialist work up to $75 an hour.
- Alignerr.com: Credentialed pros (health, legal) can hit $95 an hour.
- Mindrift.ai: Advertises $15 to $100-plus, depending on your expertise.
|
FYI, the fine print: You’re a freelancer, work comes in waves and there’s an unpaid skills test to get in. It’s side money, not a salary. Don’t quit your day job. Do check your email in line at the grocery store. |
🚨 Fakers gunning for your wallet |
Scammers watched this gig get hot and built a trap called the task scam. |
It starts with a text or WhatsApp message offering easy “app optimization” work. The first little tasks pay out a few bucks, right on time. Then comes the twist: Deposit your own money, usually crypto, to “unlock” the higher-paying level. That deposit is gone forever. |
Three rules keep you safe: |
Real platforms never text first. You apply to them, never the reverse.
Never pay to get paid. No deposit, no “training fee,” no crypto. Ever.
Skip the ads. Type the site address into your browser yourself. Sponsored look-alikes are how crooks catch you.
|
You’ve spent your whole life correcting know-it-alls for free. Finally, being a nitpicker isn’t a character flaw. It’s a billing category. |
🎯 Send this to someone who corrects everyone’s grammar for free. |
📱 Text-worthy: Companies pay people to catch chatbot mistakes: $15-$40/hr to start, ~$85/hr with a medical background, $100+ for lawyers and PhDs. Legit sites: DataAnnotation.tech, Outlier.ai, Alignerr.com, Mindrift.ai. Apply directly. Never pay a fee. Any “job” that texts you first is a scam. |

🚕 No wheel, no problem? Tesla's Cybercab has no steering wheel or pedals, so what happens when one dies in the road? NBC's David Ingram found the answer in a manual. Preferred fix: a Tesla employee moves it remotely. Backup plan: push it, but only in Tow Mode or the motor can overheat with "potential risk of shock." Need to steer? Grab the front tires and turn them by hand. Two hundred years of automotive progress, and we're back to pushing the buggy. |
Gate expectations: Remember walking Grandma right to her gate? TSA just brought that back. Gateside by TSA PreCheck lets approved non-flyers past security at 13 airports, including LAX, San Diego, Dallas Fort Worth and Las Vegas. It's free if you already have PreCheck or a Known Traveler Number. Apply one to three days ahead, then stroll through the PreCheck lane. No ticket, no plane, only hellos, goodbyes and overpriced nachos. Here’s the official airport list. |
🫣 Privacy gets personal: This is a long read but very worth it. In recent Capitol Hill demos, nonprofit CivAI asked an AI system to find churchgoing Christians in Janesville, Wis., then watched it map homes, work commutes, shopping habits and social ties. It also flagged abortion clinic visits, mental health treatment and gun owners. The dossiers even listed vulnerabilities to exploit. I think we can all agree that data brokers know too much. Head to PrivacyKim.com because now more than ever, you need Incogni helping scrub your personal information.* |
📺 Free TV, felony Wi-Fi. Those "watch everything free forever" SuperBox streamers sold at flea markets and online? Researchers found the preloaded CyberFlix TV app quietly rents out your home internet to strangers as a "residential proxy." Translation: crooks route their traffic through your house so it looks like you did it. Own one? Unplug it, toss it, change your Wi-Fi password. Free TV. Priced in subpoenas. |

DEVICE ADVICE |
⚡️ 3-second tech genius: ▶️ YouTube's best hidden trick: Watching a how-to video where the guy takes four minutes to say "unscrew the panel"? In the YouTube app, press and hold anywhere on the video. It instantly plays at 2x speed. Let go and it drops back to normal. No menus, no fiddling. On a computer, tap the number keys instead. 5 jumps to the halfway point, 9 skips to 90%, 0 starts over. And Shift + . (that's the period key) bumps the speed up a notch every time you hit it. I use this a lot. |
✍️ Word and Outlook will stop finishing your sentences: Microsoft is turning text predictions off by default. Finally. 🙄 Every time I type "Kim K" it tries to make me a Kardashian. Miss it already? Dig it back out under Settings > Advanced > Show text predictions while typing. |
📶 Your car is broadcasting your contacts: Ever paired your phone with a rental car? Your contacts, call log and texts are probably still sitting in that dashboard for the next driver to scroll through. Before you return it, tap the car's Settings > Bluetooth (or Phone), find your name and hit Delete or Forget. Same goes for the loaner from the dealership and your buddy's truck. Your phone book doesn't need a road trip of its own. |
💸 X marks the spot: Now that X Money (Elon's new payment service, bank card and all) is rolling out wide, crooks are blasting fake password resets at accounts by the thousands. Head to Settings and privacy > Security and turn on Two-factor authentication and Password Reset Protect. Get a reset email you didn't ask for? Delete it. Don't click anything, not even "cancel." That's the trap. |
🗣️ Translate, hold to ear. Google Translate's two new tricks: On iPhone, "listening mode" lets you hold the phone to your ear like a call and hear a translation of whoever's talking, no earbuds needed. On Android, Live Translate now runs in the background, so you can check the map or your hotel confirmation without killing the conversation. Both are rolling out now. Fall trip booked? Update the app before you go. |

🪖 Saving Private Whiskers |
Your robot vacuum cleans floors. This guy's takes orders from a general named Mr. Mittens. |
A pet owner turned his robot vacuums into miniature tanks with custom cardboard chassis, then let his cats ride on top like four-star commanders surveying freshly conquered territory. It's part smart home hack, part low-budget war movie and 100% proof that cats have finally found a ride that matches their sense of authority. Call it the Purr-sian Gulf. |
Look, we handed them armored vehicles. This is the exact moment humans lost the house. The dog surrendered immediately. The Roomba never had a chance. Resistance is feline. |
Watch the cat-astrophe unfold. It's not a vacuum anymore. It's a meow-bile command center. (OK, I’ll stop now.) |

LOGGING OUT … |
🎓 What you learned today:
Companies pay $15 to $100-plus an hour to catch chatbots lying, and the only "job" that texts you first is a scam. Tesla's robotaxi comes with pushing instructions. TSA will let you walk Grandma to the gate again. That $40 "free TV" box may be renting your Wi-Fi to crooks. YouTube goes 2x when you hold your finger down. And an Apple Watch caught cancer before the doctor did. Not bad for a day off. |
Tomorrow: your fitness tracker may be a confident little liar. I'll break down which numbers on your wrist you can trust and which ones are digital fan fiction. |
📧 The answer: C) 77 times a day. That's roughly once every six minutes of an eight-hour shift. And that's the average. The heaviest checkers in the study peeked at their inbox 374 times a day. (That's not a job. That's a hostage situation.) |
Here's why it matters: every peek costs you. Researchers found it takes about 23 minutes to fully refocus after an interruption. Do that math on 77 checks and you never actually get back to work. You just visit it. |
Try this tomorrow. Silence the pings. |
On iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > Mail and turn off Allow Notifications.
On Android, Settings > Notifications > App notifications > Gmail.
|
Then check email three times a day. Morning, lunch, before you leave. Your brain will thank you. Your boss might even notice. |
I wanted to get to inbox zero, but my emails believe in job security. |
😴 One more thing before you leave: Sleep better tonight. Our brand-new, melatonin-free ImproveLife Sleep is here, and Labor Day is the perfect time to try it. Save up to 30% on Sleep and other ImproveLife favorites during our biggest sitewide sale yet. I take it every night, it works! ** |
