How much is your Google Business Profile worth? |
Shane Viggiani grew Ampere Electric from $700,000 to nearly $15 million in annual revenue in five years. A major part of his marketing strategy? Collecting more than 3,000 Google reviews, compared to roughly 1,200 for his closest competitor. |
In a recent episode of the Owned and Operated podcast, we discussed all of this and more… |

Turn Your Google Reviews Into a Growth Engine |
Shane made collecting Google reviews part of his daily operation. That consistency helped Ampere Electric reach 3,000 reviews and establish a significant advantage over competitors. |
Read: See how to dominate Google search results. |
Here's how I'd approach building that same advantage: |
Make reviews routine. Train technicians to ask satisfied customers for a review after every completed job. Track your weekly progress.
Study your competition. Compare your review count, rating, and Google visibility against the top companies in your market.
Optimize your Google Business Profile. Keep information accurate, upload photos, respond to reviews, and track the leads it generates.
Look for expansion opportunities. Evaluate whether additional legitimate business locations could help you reach more customers through Google.
|
I've seen a single Google Business Profile generate millions in revenue over time. The sooner you start treating your online reputation as a long-term marketing investment, the more valuable that asset can become. |

The Numbers Behind a $15M Business |
Shane's growth shows what can happen when you consistently invest in your reputation. Here are the numbers that caught my attention during our conversation: |
$700K → $15M: Ampere Electric's revenue growth in approximately five years, driven in part by its focus on Google and customer reviews.
3,000 Google reviews: Ampere's review count, compared to roughly 1,200 for its closest competitor. That's a 2.5X advantage.
800 reviews: The number attached to a Google Business Profile we acquired in 2021. That profile alone has since generated millions in revenue.
Nearly 20 Google Business Profiles: Our approximate total across five markets, including around nine in Cleveland.
7 weeks: How long it took to get one of our newest Google Business Profiles approved, showing why expansion requires planning.
|
My takeaway: Review count, local search visibility, and leads generated from Google Business Profiles should be KPIs every home service owner monitors. These numbers can tell you a lot about the strength of your marketing operation. |

Build a Google Review Machine in 30 Days |
Shane built a 3,000-review advantage by making review collection part of daily operations. Here's how to build a similar system in 30 days. |
Step 1: Establish Your Baseline (Days 1–3) |
Search Google for your three most important services. Record the review counts, ratings, and local rankings of your five biggest competitors. |
Calculate how many jobs you complete monthly and set a review target. For example, 200 completed jobs at a 25% review conversion rate means 50 new reviews. |
Step 2: Build the Review Process (Days 4–7) |
Add these actions to your job completion checklist: |
Have technicians ask every satisfied customer for an honest review.
Text a direct Google review link before leaving the property.
Set an automatic reminder to follow up once after 48 hours.
|
Assign one person to monitor requests and follow-ups daily. |
Step 3: Create Accountability (Days 8–14) |
Build a simple weekly scorecard tracking completed jobs, requests sent, and reviews received. |
Set a goal of requesting reviews on 100% of eligible completed jobs. Review results every Monday and coach technicians who are missing requests. |
Step 4: Optimize Your Google Business Profile (Days 15–21) |
Audit your business categories, hours, service areas, and contact information. Upload five recent job photos and respond to outstanding reviews. |
Assign someone to add new photos and respond to reviews every week. |
Step 5: Measure and Improve (Days 22–30) |
Compare your review count, rating, local rankings, calls, and booked jobs against Day 1. |
Calculate your review conversion rate, identify missed requests, and adjust your process. Set next month's target based on actual results. |
My advice: Make this a permanent operating procedure. Shane's 3,000 reviews took years to accumulate, creating an advantage competitors can't easily replicate. |

Where Your Reputation Strategy Falls Short |
Building a strong online reputation takes consistency, but I see plenty of contractors making mistakes that limit their growth. |
Waiting for reviews to happen naturally. Make asking for reviews a standard part of every completed job.
Ignoring the competition. Know how your review count, rating, and Google visibility compare to other companies in your market.
Focusing only on paid advertising. Invest in your Google Business Profile and organic visibility to build a lasting source of leads.
Overlooking marketing assets during acquisitions. Evaluate Google reviews, customer lists, and established profiles before determining what a business is worth.
Expanding without a clear strategy. Additional Google Business Profiles can create opportunities, but each location must be legitimate, eligible, and supported by a plan to generate leads.
