 | SANTA FE, N.M. (UPI) -- Susana Martinez is New Mexico's first female governor and the nation's first Hispanic female governor, officials said.
Martinez, a Catholic, attended a New Year's Eve mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe before being sworn in, the Albuquerque Journal reported.
Her husband Frank and dozens of friends and family members joined Martinez at the mass at the 150-year-old church.

The gathering will be held in Assisi, Italy, in October, the Catholic News Agency reported. The summit will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the first World Day of Prayer for Peace, Vatican Radio said.
Benedict also asked Catholics to pray "for peace throughout the world."
