Can EPRI be more like CableLabs?


The history of telecom is filled with wasted efforts and several blind alleys with technology, support systems and other “cost reduction” efforts. Fundamentally, the history of telecom is filled with great innovation followed by a hit or miss of industry success -- the transistor, the videophone, the first Voice over Packet (Ethernet) etc. However, with some, when deployed properly, efficiency was achieved and the cost was recovered.


Bell Labs (News - Alert), Bellcore, delivered a lot of research that progressed innovation regardless of whether it progressed telecom. EPRI is the equivalent of the technology. EPRI does a lot of good things and was probably the first virtual organization since it works collaboratively with utilities and partner companies in over 40 countries...
