HERE’S WHAT’S IN THIS ISSUE:
📧 Find the question buried in a 40-message reply-all.
🎭 “Wrapper” decoded + the $312-a-year chatbot knockoff.
⚠️ The recruiter who knows your résumé too well.
🎚️ Make ChatGPT build you a calculator, not a lecture.
🍼 An AI pop star goes on maternity leave. |
But first, some trivia. Remember when Photoshop fails only had suspiciously smooth foreheads? Nissan rolled up to a concept car showcase with a very real Sentra Spec-V concept, 300 horsepower, turbo power, actual tires touching actual ground. Then the internet zoomed in and said, “Hold on, something’s not right.” |
🫠 What was the biggest giveaway that Nissan’s edited photos had gotten a little too AI-happy? A) The car had five wheels, B) Nissan’s front logo was gibberish scribbles, C) The steering wheel was on the roof or D) The driver had six fingers and a bonus mohawk? The answer’s waiting at the checkered flag at the end. |
⚠️ Own a home or land? Crooks don’t need a crowbar to steal your house. Just a forged document. I use Home Title Lock to keep my title safe, and I got you a free 14-day trial plus a Title History Report at my.hometitlelock.com/kim.* — Kim |

📧 Reply-all and conquer |
I just got back from a weeklong business trip taking me from Phoenix to Lithuania and London, and let me tell you, the email multiplied like spam. I didn’t open half of it, it looked like potted meat. |
But there it was, a 40-message reply-all chain that grew legs while I was gone. Inside are three people agreeing to move a meeting, two “per my last email” grenades and, buried around message 23, one actual question: “Kim, can you confirm the budget?” Nobody heard from me, and the thread noticed. |
Microsoft says the average employee gets 117 emails a day, most skimmed in under a minute. |
🦖 Do some inbox archaeology |
First, grab the whole thread, not only the last reply. In Gmail, click the printer icon (“Print all”) and copy the page. In Outlook, expand the whole conversation first. Paste it into your inbox’s built-in AI (Gemini or Copilot) or, if your company allows it, your favorite chatbot with client names stripped out. Then add this: |
You’re my chief of staff. From this thread, tell me what was decided and by whom, what’s still open and every action item that’s mine, with who asked and when. Flag decisions made without me and any line suggesting I dropped the ball. Sort it into CAUGHT UP, CLEANUP (all my action items) and WATCH LIST (decisions and blame). Quote the original line for anything in CLEANUP or WATCH LIST. |
|
|
Now, do the human part. |
If CAUGHT UP says the Q3 deadline moved to Dec. 15, fix your calendar. If CLEANUP says Finance needs budget approval today, reply to Finance only and let the reply-all keep swirling. If WATCH LIST says Jenna wrote “per my last email” three times, message her directly before she copies your boss, “Catching up on this. Here’s what I have. What did I miss?” |
One caution: AI is bad at sarcasm. “Interesting approach” can mean interesting, or it can mean someone is drafting a complaint. Read the quoted lines yourself before you act on tone. |
Your move this week: Run the longest thread you’ve been avoiding. Why didn’t the email subject line go to the party? It had no body to go with. |
📩 Send this to someone who comes back from vacation to 400 unread emails. |

Is your home equity safe from scammers? |
We protect our homes with locks, insurance and security systems, but many homeowners overlook our most valuable asset, our equity. I use Home Title Lock to protect my home against title fraud. You should, too. |
Today’s thieves don’t need to break into your home to steal it from you. All they need is public information and a forged document to transfer ownership and take control of your property. I found a solution that not only monitors your title for fraud but also steps in to restore it if a criminal tries to take it from you. |
Home Title Lock monitors your title 24/7 and alerts you to any suspicious activity. If fraud happens, their title restoration team and network of legal experts go to work for you immediately. NO out-of-pocket costs! I’ve arranged for you to get a 14-day free trial and a free Title History Report. |

AI Word of the Day |
This free newsletter brings you the terms you need to know to be AI literate! |
Wrapper (noun): An app built on someone else’s AI, usually ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude, with a new name and a price tag slapped on top. It’s tap water in a designer bottle. |
How it works: Building a big AI model costs billions. Building a wrapper takes a weekend. The app sends your question to OpenAI, Google or Anthropic behind the scenes, grabs the answer and hands it back with its own logo on it. You never see the middleman. |
Spot one in the wild: A security firm caught a “Chat GBT” iPhone app charging $6 a week. That’s $312 a year for chatbot basics OpenAI gives away for free. (Yes, GBT. Not a typo. Well, their typo.) |
Not every wrapper is a rip-off. Some add something real, like a tool built for lawyers, a homework helper that won’t hand kids the answers or an app that pulls in your own documents. You’re paying for the extras. The problem is wrappers that add nothing but a monthly charge. |
Why it matters to your wallet and your privacy: |
Many of these apps hide behind a “free trial” that rolls into a weekly subscription. Weekly adds up fast. Your chats can pass through two companies instead of one: the wrapper and the AI it’s built on. That’s twice the places your info can end up. Look-alike names like “Chat GBT” are built to catch you tapping fast in the App Store.
|
Before you pay, do this: |
Read the app’s description or privacy policy. Look for OpenAI, Google or Anthropic. Type the same request into the free chatbot. Same answer? You just found the costume. Already subscribed? On iPhone, go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. On Android, open Google Play > profile icon > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
|
Use it in a sentence: “My sister paid $40 a month for an AI résumé app, but it turned out to be a wrapper. Same answers as free ChatGPT, with a prettier font and a bill.” |

🤝 Quite the résumé you’ve got there |
I’d trust a recruiter who misspells my name before one who knows my résumé better than I do. |
Debra’s son let an auto-apply tool fire off 200 applications. Three days later, “Sarah from Deloitte” texted about a role that fit like custom shoes. Python, Tableau, the exact years of experience. He didn’t remember applying. The scammer was counting on that. |
Mass-apply with AI, and you lose track, so every recruiter sounds believable. Even the fake one with a perfect pitch and someone else’s headshot. |
The FTC says Americans reported losing nearly $750.6 million to job and business opportunity scams in a single year. That’s over $2 million a day and only counts what people reported. |
A perfect fit you can’t remember applying for means pause. Have your chatbot keep a log of every application: company, role, date and link. |
When a recruiter pops up, paste their message in with this: |
Review this recruiter’s message. Compare it against my application log [paste log]. List any mismatches in company name, job title, dates or required skills. Flag any request for money, equipment or training fees, app downloads or interviews held anywhere other than the employer’s official site. Tell me plainly if this company is missing from my log. |
|
|
Company not on your list? The recruiter is unverified until proven otherwise. Never pay a training or equipment fee, and never install an interview app someone texted you. Real companies don’t charge you to work there. Report fakes at reportfraud.ftc.gov and tell the real company’s HR team. |
One catch: Your chatbot can’t spot everything. Scammers build look-alike web addresses with one extra letter or word tucked in, so type the company’s address yourself every single time. Don’t tap their link. |
📩 Send this to anyone letting a bot run their job hunt. |

🎚️ Stop getting the paragraph |
My sister was eyeing a weekend consulting gig, so I asked ChatGPT if she should take it. I got a paragraph. Then I asked it to build her a calculator. I got sliders for hours, rate, taxes and mileage, and we watched the gig drop to $11 an hour. (She’s my much, much older sister. Hi, Christine. I know you’re reading this.) |
That’s Intelligent UI. With GPT-6, ChatGPT can answer with things you click instead of text you scroll: buttons, forms, charts, checklists. It started rolling out Oct. 7 on paid plans and Oct. 8 on free ones. |
But a setting buried on the web can switch most of it off. If yours says Simple, you’re getting the paragraph. |
Setup takes about a minute. I couldn’t fit all the steps here, so for your email sanity, I wrote them up on my site with the exact prompt and the math most people forget. Click below. You’re welcome. |

🎤 Oops! AI did it again |
Some pop stars drop a new album. Mity dropped a pregnancy announcement. Small problem: She doesn’t have a body. |
Mity sings in BABYQUEEN, a Chinese all-AI-girl group built to look and sound like K-pop. She broke the news with a selfie in pink pajamas and promised to step away to focus on rest and recovery. From what, exactly? Rendering? |
Here’s the real reason. Her creators were worn out from running four fake pop stars, so they wrote one having a baby. That’s The Sims with a PR team and a better maternity policy than most humans get. Seriously. |
Check out the story here. No word yet on whether the baby comes with a firmware update. |

Here’s your haul for today. You dug the one real question out of a 40-message reply-all, learned to spot an AI wrapper before you pay for one, caught a fake recruiter before he caught you, made ChatGPT build you a calculator and met the AI pop star on maternity leave. Not bad for five minutes of reading. |
🚗 The answer: B) Nissan’s own logo was gibberish scribbles. Yep, where “Nissan” should’ve been, the AI left weird little marks like it had a keyboard sneeze. Car sites kept zooming and found a bigger mess: lug nuts that didn’t match, tire tread that didn’t line up with the real Yokohama tires, labels melted into mush and a brake fluid cap that looked like it was written in ancient robot. |
Nissan says the car itself is absolutely real. Only the backgrounds were supposed to get the AI beauty treatment. The car got mangled on the way. Moral of the story? If a picture feels off, zoom in on the text. AI still acts like spelling is more of a suggestion than a skill. I mean, just give the car a real good look here. What do you call the world’s toughest sedan? A Liam Nissan. |
